I come from a family of artists and educators, but never did I think I’d do either. Now I’ve done both. After a short career in the fashion industry, I was enticed to education through a teacher training program. I fell in love with the work, the kids, and the struggles of the urban areas. After teaching in some of the most dangerous middle schools in areas most would not consider visiting, I’m now opening a new public secondary school in a major metropolitan area. This blog is my story, my thoughts, my reflections and my learnings.
I’d love to start a discussion with others in educational administration. My email address is newprincipal@gmail.com
I commend your commitment to urban schools. I taught in an urban elementary school and loved it - followed it with a stint at our Dept. of Education working with urban school principals. Now I am working on my dissertation which is looking at how urban elementary school principals build capacity for change beyond their tenure - it is based on Hargreaves and Fink’s book Sustainable Leadership - very inspirational. Best of luck and I’ll check in again to see how you are doing! Pam
